About Our Church

Grace Bible Baptist Church of Lautoka, Fiji (formerly known as International Baptist Church) was founded in 1994 under the leadership of Pastor Paul Daku Sr. who is still our senior pastor. During these years, we have seen God bless our church with a building and more facilities as we have been able to expand our ministries to show the love of Christ in our community.

Our Mission & Vision

At GBBC our vision and mission is to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ…

As followers of Jesus Christ, we believe our vision and mission is to obey the Lord Jesus and the Great Commission given to us in Matthew 28:18-20.

Mission & Purpose

In this passage we see four things we are to do as individuals who make up the church: 1. Go (with the Gospel) 2. Teach (the truths of the Word of God) 3. Baptize (as a public display of what Christ has done in a life) 4. Disciple (teaching God’s Word to those who will faithfully share it to others) Our goal is to help each person trust Christ and then grow in their relationship with Him. This is the goal of our ministries and outreach into the community.

Our Beliefs

There are many different types of churches that believe many types of things. We believe it is important to believe the truth as Jesus called the church “the pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15) Below is what the Bible teaches about these important doctrines and thus what we hold as our beliefs.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary, and is thus 100% man and 100% God. (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Matthew 1:25) He came to earth with the purpose of dying on the cross to pay for the sins of the world and provide a way to have a restored relationship with God. (Luke 19:10; 1 John 2:2) He has promised He will come again to receive those who have accepted his gift of salvation and to judge those who have rejected. (John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 5:23)

The Bible

We believe the Bible to be the very words of God given to man to show us His love and how we are to live. (1 Timothy 3:16-17; Proverbs 30:5) The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice at GBBC (Matthew 4:4) We believe the King James Version is the preserved Word of God for English-speaking people and use the KJV in all our services.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and has been given the ministry of empowering the church to carry out the Great Commission (Acts 1:8; John 14:16-17) We believe the gifts of tongues is not a sign today of the filling of God’s Spirit. This was a gift given in the early church and was always a known language to someone who was involved. (1 Corinthians 13:8, 14:27-28)

Salvation

We believe every person is born in sin (Romans 3:23; 5:12) Sin has separated mankind from God, and the only way of a restored relationship to God is found in accepting Jesus Christ’s gift of salvation purchased when he died on the cross. (Romans 10:9,10,13; John 3:16) There is no other way, and any attempt to gain salvation through good works will fall short. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Ephesians 2:8,9)

Eternity

The Bible clearly teaches that when someone dies they will spend eternity in either one of two places: Heaven or Hell. (Matthew 7:13-14; Luke 16:23; John 14:2) Hell was prepared for the Devil and his angels, but all those who reject God’s free gift will spend eternity here to be punished for their sins. (Matthew 24:41; Revelation 20:11-15) All who by faith accept God’s gift of salvation will spend eternity in Heaven with Him. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; John 5:24)

“Jesus Christ has a purpose for your life. You were created with meaning and value, and if you follow the Lord you can find the peace and fulfillment for which God intends for your life. “

Frequently Asked Questions

What language are your services in?

All our services are conducted in English so as not to exclude anyone. We love the many cultures and ethnicities represented in Fiji and our church and are thankful that we can ministry and work together in one common language.

What is the music like in your church?

We believe music in the church should have as its primary purpose to honor and glorify God. We believe conservative hymns and choruses best accomplish this purpose and bring honor to God. Our song services are accompanied by piano and occasionally the guitar. We have special music and a choir who sing (Sunday mornings).

What if I have small children?

You are able to send your children to our classes specifically designed for them during each service. You are also welcome to join them in the class if you would like. For little ones, we also have a nursery provided where mothers can watch their children while still being able to listen to the service.

What do people wear to your church?

Most of those who attend our church wear casual to dressy clothing for Sunday Services, with a more casual dress on Wednesday Evenings.

What if I need a ride?

Our church is thankful we can provide transportation to and from church for those who do not have a way to make it on their own. Please do not hesitate to connect us if you would like a ride to church.

What can I expect when I visit?

You can expect to be greeted with a friendly welcome when you visit our church. Families in our church range from young to elderly, with also a growing singles group. There are also many ethnic groups in our church so wherever you are from, we would love to have you visit!
